genre shift

Can one talk of a genre shift not as a historical phenomenon, not in the retrospect of time but an effect made by faulty translation?

E.g. There’s a novel which can be described as a fantasy according to some criteria. Then it gets translated into another language losing its fantastic elements and, in fact, stops being a fantasy compared to the original, English, version. Is it correct to describe the translation effect as a genre shift?
